Location: Paris
“Gossip Girl” will finally follow some of its characters outside the tri-state area next season.
Co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage say the show will film next season’s first two episodes in Paris, with Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) most likely to make the trip overseas and the rest of the cast jealous. Savage was in France to scout locations over the weekend.
“We mention our characters’ fabulous travels all time, but it’s very hard, and expensive, to actually show them,” Savage tells Vulture via e-mail from the City of Light. “The books were lucky this way: ‘Aspen ski trip’ costs nothing extra to type. So it’s a big deal to be able to take production on the road, especially overseas.”
Next week’s “Gossip Girl” season finale is called “Last Tango, Then Paris,” so the setup for characters to go across the Atlantic is clearly already in place. As to what happens when they get there? (Mild spoilers coming in trois, deux, un…)
“Serena and Blair are finishing up their fabulous summer vacation when someone from home mysteriously shows up in town,” Savage tells Vulture. “They need to solve this mystery, or else return to a New York that’s a very different world.”
There’s no word yet on when “Gossip Girl” will film its Paris episodes.
