The most fashionable polo-goers at this weekend’s St Regis International Cup at Cowdray Park in Sussex, were to be found in the St Regis tent, naturally.
Afternoon tea from the Lanesborough was served and the Tattinger was in full flow as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Jade Parfitt, Jodie Kidd and Ben Grimes mingled with Percy Parker, George Lamb, Camilla Rutherford and Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones in the sunshine.
The day’s biggest celebrity attraction was Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, who cut a Gallic-looking, almost louche, figure in his Acne Breton T-shirt as he watched England narrowly beat South Africa.
“I’ve got no idea what it’s all about,” he told us from his sun-drenched corner of the St Regis tent. Fresh from shooting his new film, Chalet Girl, with Bill Nighy, Westwick had suffered an unfortunate dry cleaning nightmare and had to re-think his outfit that morning.
While he filled us in on his fall-back look (the Acne T-shirt, Opening Ceremony shoes with J Crew jeans and hat), he was less forthcoming on his relationship with fellow Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr. “No comment,” he said, “It’s a bit of a sore point and we’re not together anymore.”
