Angelina Jolie skips White House Dinner

Socially conscious actress skips out on night of bad jokes and tinned champagne

Angelina Jolie skips White House DinnerPresident Barack Obama gave his stand up routine at the White House Correspondents' Dinner he was performing before an all star crowd. One celebrity was noticeable absent. Angelina Jolie had been invited to the event, but choose to decline.

too famous for the president?

Jolie had just finished up some humanitarian work in Bosnia. She was also filming a movie in Europe. Not that her schedule would've stopped her. When Angie wants to do something she does it and God help anyone who gets in the way. Let's just say that she had her reason. One of her PR people put it like this: "Angie is filming in Europe at the moment, but that isn't the reason she didn't attend. She didn't go because on her weekends off she would rather spend her time helping those who really need it rather than sitting, drinking champagne and laughing at bad jokes in a fancy DC ballroom."

stark raving dad

Bad Jokes is a little harsh. Did she know that the staff writers from the Daily Show wrote the Pres' material for him? Actually Angelina has had her differences with the Obama administration before. December of last year - on Human Rights Day to be exact - Jolie wrote yet another magazine article criticizing President Obama for his new rules of engagement policy for the Sudan. She also felt his Darfur policy was a little vague. Then again her father Jon Voight is a big Republican Party supporter. I think that they've tapped the old boy to be their celebrity spokesperson/elder statesman now that Charlton Heston has passed on.

"Action speaks louder than words" - that's easy for you to say

Just because Jolie is painfully aware of the world situation doesn't mean that she holds attendance against other celebrities. Says Jolie's spokeswhore: "Angie doesn't judge other celebrities for wanting to rub shoulders with President Obama," to PopEater. "It's just she is just someone who thinks your actions are more important than words". Angelina is far too advanced to judge other celebrities - she'll merely publicly shame them to make herself look good. BTW Jolie's magazine article - which may or may not have spoken louder than words - was published in Newsweek, not in her usual favorite forum for her ideas, the Economist.
