Cheap Shots and Zany Schemes
Does one good burn deserve another? Sure Tiger's burned plenty of people but in fairness most of those were carpet burns (Can you tell I've been watching Two And A Half Men again?). Nike goes Hamlet as they invoke the ghost of Tiger Woods' late father Earl in their most recent ad:
My Name Is Earl
Using the voice of a man's dead father to play off of his tragedy for the sake of a commercial is pretty low. It might be okay if you're trying to scare tactic some one in to doing what you want though . I think Lucille Ball pulled that on Ricky Ricardo back in the golden days of television - "Son, buy your wife diamonds!" Since Lucille Ball went onto give the world Star Trek via her Desilu Productions she can be forgiven. Today's modern advertisers could learn a lesson or two from the glory days of TV. You don't sell products by playing on emotions; you attract attention by risking life and limb!
