The “Gossip Girl” gang always looks incredibly sophisticated — and much like those other stylish city shows before them, “GG” has helped remind people that fashion is important. The series has even managed to inspired designers (Anna Sui created a Target line as a nod to the show) and the show’s stylist, Eric Daman himself. He says he uses New York City as his muse!
I’m very inspired by the city,” he told MTV News. “Everything you see in the city from the architecture to the people in the street. It’s like a fashion forward city and the city itself is so beautiful and so inspiring. You see so many different characters every day. It feeds me.”
Eric admits he’s surprised by how much pop culture has been infiltrated by the “Gossip Girl” world, even though he’d always imagined the show would have some sort of fashion domination. “I was hoping it would. We wanted to launch the clothing as a part of the character, a hyper-reality-level and the girls in real life,” he explained. As for the rest of this season, Eric insists, “You’re gonna see a lot of amazing ‘Gossip Girl’ outfits!”
So, which “Gossip Girl” character does the costume designer relate to most in real life? “I would be somewhere between Chuck Bass and Serena Van Der Woodsen…. just cause that mix of super chic Upper East Side boy and I like to be a little sexy,” he shared. “It’s a strange mix.”
