I don't think Apple is dumb enough ot release it in December. Think of all the 5.5G returns they would have. While they could obviously still sell the unopened 5.5Gs think of all the time their employees would waste accepting returns when they could be selling more iPods and computers. I think it will either be out before Thanksgiving or sometime next year.

A word of caution on gauge size and nipple piercing. Smaller gauges may have eye appeal, but in "play" they can be hazardous. Think of a a cheese or butter slicer (the thin wire on a handle). Heard and seen more than a few instances of accidents happening.

Welcome to Macrumors, it is like this all the time. Some weeks are worse then others. You just get used to it!
Seems like youll only have something to get used if you expect MR to be something that it is not.
As we all know, some are better than others in terms of getting the release date correct. In some cases, there will be years of discussion about the same device and again and again false positives will come up, telling everyone its on the way even though it isnt
But insight on when somethings going to happen isnt the singular, or even the primary, purpose of these discussions. Theyre an opportunity to talk about what MAY BE released and what sort of functionality/design it will have, how it will work, what the target market (beside us) will be, etc.

I think he may be right. I've never seen a parking lot with rows of cars parallel parked.
Edit: Although I do not see brake lights engaged on most of the cars.
Guess you've never been on "parking lot" 405 in Southern California :p

Cool! The 750 GB HDD option on the iMac is pretty sweet. For a AIO like the iMac, it's nice to see Apple equipping it with options like this (and the 3 GB of RAM) which will extend its longevity.
Also, nice to see the Xserve is finally available for ordering, I know our lab guys have wanted to pick one up for the longest time.

I happen to have the displeasure of knowing a good many more than I'd like to, and I'm telling you there's no way that a full 45% of that student body are blue-blooded Mac users. Princetonians are a people lacking utterly in subtlety and charm, and even poorer in aesthetic intuition. They're the people who pose with upturned collars! I can't stress strongly enough: These people aren't Mac users. They're switcheurs.
Has it occured to you that your smug elitism and gross stereotyping is exactly why lots of people hate Ivy Leaguers in the first place?
You should at least recognize that time change. Some Ivy League schools were aggressively phasing out Macs less than a decade ago, and as recent as five years ago. That's enough time for the undergrad population to turn over several times.

It'd be funnier had he tried to blend it with the aluminum back and batteries. Blending the display isn't quite the feat.
Also the reason it works when bent is because the components are all at the top. Middle/Bottom is mostly made up of the batteries. Theoretically you could cut it in half and it'd still work. Although I doubt the display would function with half it missing :P
Ah well, still good for a laugh.

there is no "mac pro tax"
there is
Brand tax - what all brands (HP, Dell, etc) charges extra VS buying loose components
Workstation grade component tax - the price you pay extra for workstation components, ECC RAM, Xeon CPU, etc, vs desktop components
Apple update tax - Apple does not lower price (rarely) on the model cycles, making it out of sync (read: more expensive) against component and competitor prices towards end of cycle

Market share is overrated. As long as Apple continues its 2-5% share, they are fine.
What planet are you from?!?!
2-5% market share is "fine" as long as you don't need developers, application programs, component parts for new products (why should Intel, Ati or NVidia sell any of their "hot" new products for very long to such a tiny niche market!), compatibility with other electronic devices (TiVos, printers, cameras, etc.), ... the list goes on and on! (And don't even get into gaming, which still drives alot of computer sales!)

They solved the case fast. Probably lots of informers working at Foxcon. Or, they have no clue and merely arrested three hapless expendable workers in order to scare the rest.
Any Foxcon story is a good story.

I personally have about 500 DVDs sitting in my office on the wall, and the only ones I or anyone else "re-watches" over and over again is animation films, such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc, because kids will sit and watch cartoons over and over again and not get sick of them. I will be happy if all they do is allow rental downloads, then I will cancel my membership with Blockbuster and their $20 a month fee. Here is my "wish list" for Apple on this Movie Store.
1) Open a movie section on itunes with at least 2K movies in content, ready to download and rent for $2.99 - $4.99 (have a fixed price, but no more then $4.99) to be viewed for unlimited times in 1 week. Instead of waiting for it to download completely, have it stream to the TV (through mac mini or new video airport express) with a good enough buffer that doesn't interrupt the movie. While you are watching it or not, continue to download to the HD so you can transfer it to an iPod to watch later or take to a friends house, on a plane, in the car, etc.
2) Movies must be better quality then current TV Shows!
3) Release the Widescreen Video iPod with 60GB and 120GB and better battery life and screen.
4) Release a Mac Mini the have Tivo capability, frontrow "style" movie store that you can access and rent movies from across the room, and a huge HD between 250GB 500GB so you can import your current DVD collection. This would be my strategy if I was apple. And I know some people on here are screaming that they want to burn it to a disc, but simply ask yourself how many times have I watched the last movie I bought? Once! Maybe twice when you had to share your new found favorite movie with your friends or family. The movies you are going to want to buy, you will go to Wal-Mart and buy them for $15 each, then import them into the new mac mini!

But it's actually better because we are not 100% on coal. We use natural gas, hydro and even wind and solar. So all considered the electric car is much better. In the North East they use a lot of hydro power so a car there really is clean.
To build upon this argument, I'd also suspect that the kind of people who would shell out $40K for this car are the kind of people that will seek out alternative energy providers anyway. Heck, I don't have a hybrid of any kind (yet) but I have Green Mountain power, and I don't even think it's the cheapest around here anymore.

I saw this on 9to5mac and it does work, ordered the ram on saturday from amazon and it works.
What RAM did you use? I tried to swap my memory (same specs) from my Mac mini (8GB) into my MBP and I just got the three beeps of death when I tried to turn it on. Does it have to be a specific brand and/or spec?

From what I've seen of it on cars, carbon fiber is quite susceptible to scratching, and scratches can look very prominent. Not sure it would make such a great enclosure material. True, it would be better for WiFi transmission, but it would also keep more heat in. Possibly a replacement for plastic, but IMO not a replacement for unibody aluminum.

^^^ No, America doesn't suck. It's a cool place filled with a lot of cool people (and some a******s, like anywhere else).
But what does suck is to be talking American politics in an interesting thread about JAPAN.
Can we please keep this thread on topic, and have those tedious Republican/Democrat fights somewhere else?

I agree with all of that except the greed part. Yes, it was wrong of them to leak this information, but I think the assumption that it was down to greed may be wrong. There's a big chance that the people who leaked these secrets are living in poverty, and it may have been out of desperation to support their families that they took the money, not just to get a bit more money for a nice holiday.
As much as you may like to think so, two wrongs don't make a right.

Could it be that he has to work for everything he has, but illegal immigrants get everything gratis, while their case awaits 'adjudication'?
Same thing happens here, in the frozen tundra.
I don't think the U.S. is even in the same ball-park, in this regard.
John explains it perfect, it's pretty much this. Like I said, I have no problem with people who legally enter this country, and pay taxes, etc. I also fell the same way about people who were born here in the UK, and decide not to work and claim money from the government. Yes we give people money not to work. Even if they have nothing wrong with them. I don't mind giving money to people who can't find a job, but recently it was exposed that 800,000 people are able to work, yet choose not to, because they don't want to work, and we pay them for this! But in all fairness Tories ( the government ) are going to change this soon.

I work for a multi-billion-dollar, multi-national corporation that employs tens of thousands and has tens of thousands of computers, and the IT department recently sent out a memo that they are beginning the transition from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, to be finished sometime in 2008 (my desktop is scheduled to be upgraded to XP sometime in 2008). They spent 5 years of testing and tweaking their systems for Windows XP; it'll probably be at least 2012 before they upgrade to Vista.
I work for the same type of company and they moved to XP a year and a half ago. The IT group had to do all sorts of junk to lock it down and test it (it runs rock solid) but they still got it out. Doubt they'll move to Vista for a while if at all (I wonder if they'll just skip it and go to the next version).
