Twenty Most Beautiful People of the Decade

CHACE CRAWFORD
In some ways, he’s a lot like Nate Archibald—a young, rich, extremely good-looking guy living in New York. And soon he’ll be tossing his flawless man-bangs about in the upcoming Footloose remake. The Texas-bred pretty boy is well on the path to American teen idolhood.
CHRISTOPHER BOLLEN: Dallas. Oh, man. Are you really close to your parents?
CHACE CRAWFORD: Yes, superclose. They were really young when they had me. You know, it’s a southern thing. They had me when they were like 21 or 22. My dad was going through med school while my mom was pregnant with my sister. So they’re still young now. I talk to my dad at least every other day. They’ve still got a little hipness left in them. I took my mom out last night. She said, “I want to know what all of the fuss is about.”
BOLLEN: Where did you take her?
CRAWFORD: Well, one of my buddies runs Butter, so he said, “Take her down here. Take her to a nice meal.” I hadn’t been there in ages, but she knew it because it’s been on our show. She was like, “Oh, show me one of those little Gossip Girl places!” I’m like, “All right, if we must.” I also took her out to some local bars that we normally go to.

New Ausiello Spoiler

Question: A little Gossip Girl scoop would make my Christmas wishes come true! –Kirstie
Ausiello: Shortly after the show returns in March, Dan + Vanessa + mojitos = Ay Caramba!

New Kristen Spoilers

Candy in Hawaii: Will Jenny get her knight in shining Armani? I?ve waited so long for Nate and Jenny to happen! Please, please tell me they will be a couple. I want them as my Christmas present!
Here?s what I can tell you. According to my source: ?Jenny definitely will try to steal Nate away? later this season, after Nate and Serena are more of a solidified couple. However, in what has been written so far, I?m told ?Nate is resisting.? That said, it certainly seems as though Jenny has fully embraced the dark side of her Machiavellian ways (will she be worse than Blair ever was?) because according to my mole, the whole Nate stealing is ?going to be pretty underhanded by Jenny. Serena won?t really suspect it for a bit.? So let me get this straight: Little J has screwed over her stepbrother/former BFF and now her stepsister too?! Talk about a character 180 from the first season! Do we have a new Big Bad on the Upper East Side? Are producers trying to make us not like her?

Marlene in Georgetown, Washington, D.C.: Some Gossip Girl news please! Anything big coming up? Deaths? Hookups? Marriages?
Dorota is getting married! Pretty sweet, no? And now that two people very close to Blair have gotten hitched lately (first mom, now Dorota), she has to be next right? OK, probably not. But a girl can dream.

Amanda in Miami: Anything on Jack Bass? Why is he back on Gossip Girl? Is he gonna mess up with Chuckles?
And how. From what I understand, Jack Bass will bring the news to Chuck that his mother is alive. But that may or may not be true. I personally hope it is and would love to meet the mother of Mother Chucker. You!? Who are we thinking could play her? Oooh, what if she turns out to be ?The Man,? aka Lena Olin? Please, Santie [Josh] Schwartz, father of Chrismukkah! Make it happen.

Exclusive: One Of These Five Lovely Ladies WILL Be Hal Jordan?s Girlfriend!

So what is going on with THE GREEN LANTERN movie?

Not much has been heard about the film since they cast Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and the production was pulled out of Australia.

Well, I did my usual snooping around and I was able to nail down who the five candidates are for the role of CAROL FERRIS ? Hal Jordan?s love interest in the film.

Per the script, Carol Ferris (27) is the daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. She works for her dad?s company FERRIS AIR, got an MBA, and has a lifetime crush on Hal Jordan.

According to my sources, the five candidates are:

1- Eva Green
2- Keri Russell
3- Diane Kruger
4- Blake Lively
5- Jennifer Garner

Little J’s Big Contract: Taylor Momsen in New Look Campaign?

It was only a matter of time until fashion-set fave, part-time rocker, and Gossip Girl actress Taylor Momsen roped herself a fat contract from a clothier. On top of her high visibility, the 16-year-old has had people waxing both good and ill about her wardrobe choices, a perfect reason for a canny company like New Look to sign the prodigy. Indeed, Nylon tells us that “Little J” might be shooting a campaign for the Brit retailer. Details are still unconfirmed at this time, but someone has to pick up this valuable free agent who, even at her tender age, has the makings of a media troublemaker without equal. Garter belts, tour buses, and night-club raging all before legal adulthood? You know some marketer is gonna jump on this ground-floor investment soon.

Amy Astley to guest in Gossip Girl

ROLE CALL: Looks like Amy Astley is ready for her “Gossip Girl” close-up. The Teen Vogue editor in chief spent Tuesday with Blake Lively and company on location at the IAC building filming a scene for the CW soap that is tentatively slated to air in March. In it, Astley will appear as herself while attending a show for character Eleanor Waldorf’s new junior clothing line. (Astley tells Waldorf she’ll be giving the collection good ink in the magazine.) Real-life social fixture Helen Lee Schifter and Schifter’s 14-year-old daughter, Storey, also will make guest appearances in the episode. Astley joins a growing list of fashion personalities who have been featured on the series — including Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Tinsley Mortimer, Georgina Chapman and Nacho Figueras. A spokesman for Teen Vogue said Astley was initially approached by the show’s producers and has no plans to write about her experience in an upcoming issue.

Penn Badgley, Producer

This is SO major. Our good friend Hilton Carter has directed a short film called Moth. The film was done with the help of Evan Guidera under the umbrella of their production company Fresh Kill, which you’ve seen us mention on here before. They have been responsible for amazing videos by Shawn Jackson, The Mighty Underdogs and Iglu and Hartley just to name a few. And of course Hilton directed this little number. ;-) I can’t speak on the film because I haven’t seen it my self but you definitely want to be in the place for the premier. I’m so proud of these guys for their hustle and their amazing talents. The film was produced by Penn Badgley of Gossip Girl and The Stepfather fame.
Hope to see you Dec. 4th.

New Gay Romance?

Serena’s younger brother Eric is to get a new boyfriend in an upcoming storyline, rumours suggest.

According to Entertainment Weekly, producers are currently casting for a new recurring character called Elliot, described as an “attractive, upscale, scruffy 16-year-old” who “lives in Eric’s building”.

Since coming out as gay in the first season, Eric has had an on-off relationship with classmate Jonathan Whitney.

Gossip Girl’s Josh Schwartz: Chuck and Jenny Moving to Forefront

In Part 2 of our interview with Chuck and Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Schwartz, we discovered that the big hubbub over the threesome is the least of Gossip’s worries. Schwartz tells TVGuide.com that there’s another story line that will cause quite a stir when the show returns and it involves one of the people pictured here. Get the scoop on that, the progression of Dan (Penn Badgley) and Vanessa’s (Jessica Szohr) relationship, Serena’s (Blake Lively) daddy issues and more …

TVGuide.com: What are you gearing towards in the season’s second half?

Josh Schwartz: You’re really going to see a real emotional arc from Chuck [Ed Westwick]. I think Jenny [Taylor Momsen] and Chuck are really going to be driving a lot of story as we move into the back half of the season.

TVGuide.com: Jenny and Eric (Connor Paolo) called a truce in the last episode. Will that actually stick?

Schwartz: They’ve called a truce with each other, but Jenny’s troubles are just beginning. She’s still very much a teenage girl, she’s grown up with these kids who are older than her and always wanted to be a part of that, but she’s going to find out that she’s not quite as adult and grown up as she thinks she is.

TVGuide.com: Blair (Leighton Meester) and Chuck’s relationship seems to be going smoothly this season.

Schwartz: Yeah, although there was that moment at the end of the episode where Chuck saw that mysterious woman at his father’s grave. That’s really going to be a big part of it. We really want to move Chuck back into the forefront of the ensemble for a portion of these back episodes. You’ll have to watch and see if it’s his mother.

TVGuide.com: Serena seems to be lost this season, with jumping from guy to guy and switching careers.

Schwartz: Well, she was trying to find her dad, and failing that, there’s certainly an issue she’s been dealing with in finding men in her life that will fill that void. She’s lurched from guy to guy as she’s trying to make sense of that missing figure in her life.

TVGuide.com: Will she be able to redeem herself?

Schwartz: That is her journey for the rest of the season. It’s a journey of redemption and maturity and understanding why she’s doing the things she’s doing and taking back control of that.

TVGuide.com: Will she continue to mess up along that journey?

Schwartz: Oh yeah, tons. It’s Gossip Girl.

TVGuide.com: Are we going to meet Mr. van der Woodsen this season?

Schwartz: We are going to continue to explore Serena’s quest for her father. Obviously he resurfaced in Lily’s [Kelly Rutherford] life and was in that letter that caused so much controversy at Christmas and Thanksgiving. That has definitely been set up.

TVGuide.com: Why did you decide to pursue the Dan and Vanessa story line this season? It can obviously become very complicated being friends.

Schwartz: Yeah, and that’s going to be something that they’re going to explore. They’ve been friends for so long. She had feelings for him awhile ago and then he discovers he has feelings for her. Can they have feelings for each other and still remain friends is going to be a big question that we’re going to tackle. I really like them together. I think you can bet on them exploring the complexities of their friendship.

TVGuide.com: There was a lot of controversy surrounding the threesome among Dan, Vanessa and Olivia (Hilary Duff). It wasn’t as crazy as people were making it out to be.

Schwartz: We were surprised when it generated as much controversy as it did. Especially in that first episode, it wasn’t so outrageous and a shock to the world. I actually really liked it because I thought it felt very, very real and tentative and it had big emotional repercussions for the characters. I like the way the writers designed it and it wasn’t just for shock value, but was actually being done to move story and explore these character dynamics.

TVGuide.com: Do you see any futures episodes of plot lines that will cause this kind of controversy again?

Schwartz: Keep your eye on little Jenny Humphrey.

WWK Spoilers

Maurice in Pittsburgh: What the what? I just read Josh Schwartz’s quote that Jenny and Chuck have something coming up on Gossip Girl. Please tell me Little J is not coming between Blair and Chuck. I’ll die!
Your life is spared. An inside source tells me that Jenny and Chuck don’t really have any big storylines together this season, so I’m assuming Josh meant Jenny will have a big storyline and Chuck will have a big storyline, but they are not the same storyline. Chuck’s story involves the possible surprise return of his believed-to-be-dead mother (and Jack Bass), and Jenny’s involves another couple she comes between…guesses?

Wanda Two Saints: Kristin, are you really not going to tell us who Jenny will be interfering with? That’s low, even for you!
Only because I like old friends with bad glasses, I will reveal that Jenny is going to “get in between Nate and Serena,” according to my rock-solid Gossip Girl source. We likey? We hatey? I’m thinking more of the latter…

Drew in St. Paul, Minn.: Has Serena’s father been cast yet on Gossip Girl?
Not yet. But he’s coming before the season ends.

New Spoilers

eonline.com:
Noelle in Normal, Ill.: Gossip Girl Insider says that a new episode will be on Jan. 4. They are liars, right?
Perhaps misinformed? We’re told that after tonight’s episode, the next new one will be Monday, March 8, per the show’s CW rep. In other more exciting Gossip Girl news, I’m told Serena’s father will come back sometime toward the end of the season. And sadly, for all you who write in week after week asking if there will be some hot and steamy Chuck and Blair sex scenes coming up, I’m still not hearing of anything scantily clad or scandalous. Now you know what to ask for from Santa!
ew.com:
Question: Who was she the woman standing over Bart’s grave on Gossip Girl? Was it Chuck’s mom? –Randi
Ausiello: First off, the grave stalker has a name, and it’s Laura Harring (The Shield). Second, yes, she will reveal herself to be the Bass family matriarch when GG returns in March. Something about this makes my impostor antennae go up though. Call me a whore for stunt casting, but if and when Chuck’s mum returned from the dead, I always imagined producers would go for a big name. You know, like Michelle Forbes. Who’s with me?

Leighton Meester Says Album Will Drop In Early 2010

While Leighton Meester’s “Somebody to Love” single and its Robin Thicke-starring music video have been in heavy rotation, the “Gossip Girl” star isn’t quite ready to drop her debut album.

“You know, it’s weird — I’m still writing. I’m about to start a movie that’s all about country music, so I’m definitely trying to keep them separated ’cause I really am starting to grasp a hold of that and I really love it,” she told MTV News at KIIS-FM’s Jingle Ball concert in Los Angeles over the weekend, adding that she expects her long-simmering LP to drop in early 2010.

“I’m thinking maybe sometime in February or March just so that I have a really good time doing the movie and finishing up ‘Gossip Girl,’ ” she said. “And then I’ll have a little bit of time to tour and really get into it and do a live show.”

Meester, who recently worked with Lil Wayne on the track “Make It Rain,” reveals that there’s one song on the album for all those too-cool-for-school kids out there in the world.

“There’s one called ‘You’re Not as Cool as You Think You Are,’ ” she said. “It’s pretty much about anybody who thinks that the song isn’t about them, you know? And it’s really funny and it’s cute. It’s really poppy — it’s kind of like Katy Perry meets, like, Regina Spektor. It’s really cool production and very sassy.”

‘Gossip Girl’s’ Leighton Meester cast in country music drama

The Upper East Side’s Blair Waldorf is trading her “Gossip Girl” headbands for a cowboy hat — Leighton Meester is headed to Nashville for “Love Don’t Let Me Down.”
“Love Don’t Let Me Down” is shaping up to have an all-star cast. Not only has Leighton Meester signed on, but so have Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw and Garrett Hedlund, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The story is that a rising country star (Hedlund) teams up with a fallen country star (Paltrow). Their relationship is complicated by the fallen star’s manager-husband (McGraw) and a beauty-queen-turned-country-singer (Meester).
Production begins in 2010 in Nashville. Interestingly, though McGraw and Hedlund play romantic rivals in “Love Don’t Let Me Down,” they played father and son in the movie version of “Friday Night Lights.” McGraw can also currently be seen as Sandra Bullock’s husband in “The Blind Side.”
This is movie will undoubtedly help Leighton Meester’s burgeoning singing career and probably expose her talents to a different audience than the “Gossip Girl” set.

Exclusive: “Tension” On Set Of Gossip Girl! Taylor Momsen Is Not Happy With Leighton Meester

What do you get when you take two young, hot starlets, put them on the same hit television show, but only give one of their albums play on that show? Lots of behind-the-scenes tension!

Gossip Girl stars Taylor Momsen, 16 and Leighton Meester, 23 are not only rivals on the show, their competing music is making them rival rock stars as well.

Sources tell HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “Taylor is not happy that Gossip Girl has been playing Leighton’s music on the show, and they have never asked to play any of her songs. It’s creating a lot of tension on set.”

Gossip Girl used Leighton’s songs “Good Girls Go Bad” and “Somebody To Love” during two episodes this season, and the CW show even premiered her music video for “Somebody To Love.” They have never used any of Taylor’s songs.

Taylor’s grunge band “The Pretty Reckless” has not yet released an album, but is signed to Interscope. Leighton’s solo album, with Universal Republic, includes songs with Cobra Starship and Robin Thicke, and is slated to debut in early 2010. Both girls have already released singles online and performed concerts in NYC in the past year.

So why the favoritism towards Leighton’s music? Our source doesn’t know for sure, but one insider said, “Leighton’s pop music fits the theme of Gossip Girl more than Taylor’s punk rock songs.”

A rep for the CW told HollywoodLife.com, “The show will support Taylor and her music when the time is right, but her music is not ready yet.”
Amanda in New York City: I know you said Gossip Girl is gonna get better, and thank god for that, because the show is really awful this season, but could you give us some good Blair and Chuck spoilers? I’m missing them having a big storyline together. I’m so tired of Blair’s NYU storyline. Are they gonna have more scenes together?

Nothing earth-shattering coming up on the Chuck and Blair front, sorry. As I told you here, there is going to be huge drama with Jack Bass returning and the possible return of Chuck’s possibly not-dead mother. (Say it with me now: Mother Chucker!) And Chuck will have a surprising encounter at his father’s graveside on the anniversary of his death. All that said, the good news I can share on Chair or Bluck or whatever clever name you call them is this: Chuck and Blair are not breaking up any time this season, according to my solid source. And they say TV love can’t last!

YRB Magazine: Jessica Szohr

Jessica Szohr really needs no introduction because, whether you’re an in-the-closet follower of Gossip Girl, an obsessed fan that stands outside of every NYC taping (yes, they do have them) or someone who adamantly insists you don’t watch “teen dramas,” she has become a New York City staple via her show, which became a hit almost the second it debuted. Most may know her as Vanessa and, though that’s not her real name, Jessica walks into a room exuding a personality just as down-to-earth and friendly as we see her on TV. The Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin native sat down to chat with YRB about her start in Hollywood, the domination of Gossip Girl and why she promises to never start a music career.

YRB: Was acting something you always wanted to pursue? How did you end up here coming from a village in Wisconsin?

Jessica: No, actually it wasn’t. I had done some catalogue modeling when I was little and then I started working in Chicago and had an agent in New York, and one of my agents along the way while I was in high school was like, “You should go try a pilot season.” But I’m the oldest of five kids, so my mom never could really take me; I wasn’t old enough to go on my own. So when I was old enough to do it on my own, I was like I might as well try it, so I graduated high school a semester early and I thought I was only gonna go to L.A. for five months. I was enrolled to Columbia in Chicago, and I’m like, “Ok, I’ll go have fun with it and start school when I’m supposed to.” And then I went to L.A. and I didn’t leave. I took an acting class with a really good acting coach named Howard Fine and that’s when I fell in love with acting.

YRB: Are there a lot of similarities between yourself and your Gossip Girl character, Vanessa?

Jessica: Um… I mean, yeah there are. Our styles are very different – I would say she’s very funkdafied, I’m much more simple than she is. For me, she’s the most relatable. She is the only one that has a normal job; she’s not growing up on the Upper East Side with $2000 handbags and limos taking her to school.

YRB: If you had the opportunity, is there anything you would change about Vanessa’s character?

Jessica: I’m excited because it’s happening this season, the third season. I was getting a little bit – not upset – but she’s a good loyal person, which is amazing, but I was kind of over her constantly being there for Nate and constantly being the good girlfriend and constantly helping these kids out and then always getting shitted on. So, I was like, she needs to step it up and be that girl from Brooklyn!

YRB: Have you ever had any real life Gossip Girl-like experiences?

Jessica: Yeah, I mean, I always think there’s drama in high school. Um, there was a group of girls that weren’t very nice and I got toilet papered and egged once, and it was like “Model my ass” in ketchup on my dad’s car. I don’t think it was as intense as Gossip Girl, but when that happened to me it was very hurtful.

YRB: Just reading the script for the show you can see how gossiping can spin out of control – how do you feel about finding yourself in the tabloids and as the center of real gossip now?

Jessica: Three things – I try not to look at them, I let things in one ear and out the other when I do hear about them, and I just take it day by day. You can’t take that stuff too seriously, and at the end of the day we’re all normal people. You know, it’s not the coolest thing that people like to put you under a magnifying glass and pick you apart, but if that’s what’s going on with us we just kinda gotta go with it. I love [acting] to tell a story, to give people a break, to be entertaining whether it’s for an hour on a TV show or a two-hour movie, so you never really expect this kind of situation with tabloids, with paparazzi, with photo shoots and all this craziness, ‘cause you’re just doing it to tell a story basically. So when a show does hit like this and becomes a pop culture show with fans all over, you don’t really know how to take it. You can’t really plan for something like this.

YRB: When you joined the cast of Gossip Girl, did you think it would become this influential with so many people? And why do you think it has?

Jessica: I remember seeing the pilot before I came out to do the show, and I remember thinking the music was on point, the energy of the city and all the fashion, and I thought all the actors were totally bringing their game. I was like, “Wow, I think that show’s gonna do well.” There was just something edgy, catchy, cool. And even though the lifestyle that they live is not so relatable to many people, the consequences and the problems and the relationships that everyone on the show goes through is what people go through – parents divorcing and passing away, your first love and breakups, best friends and getting in fights and backstabbing and all that kind of stuff.

YRB: The NY fashion and party scene is such an integral part of the show – is that something that tends to carry over into your personal lives?

Jessica: Um, definitely the fashion part has. In Wisconsin I’d go rummaging with my grandma and my mom and vintage shop and things like that, and coming here I definitely have opened my eyes to a lot more designers and focused a lot more on fashion than I ever have in the past. The parties…yeah, it’s different here with parties and stuff too, there’s a lot more events here than there are other places… You can be social in a lot of ways here.

YRB: You have a new movie coming out, Piranha 3-D. Tell us about that.

Jessica: I think it’s coming out March 10, [2010], and we filmed it in Lake Havasu, AZ for two months, which was ridiculously hot. It was cool to shoot on a boat and be able to be in and out of water, but working on a lake is eerie and dark and we were trying to, you know, get away from piranhas so it was a little creepy sometimes. It was fun; it was nice to get out of the cement jungle for a little bit. It went from, like, crazy NYC cabs and people everywhere to the middle of the desert, so that was kind of a big change. It’s the remake of the 1970’s [movie], and I think it’s gonna be pretty scary.

YRB: What would you say would be your ideal role?

Jessica: Oooo, lots of stuff, everything! I think to play a parent ‘cause I’d have to do so much research, a crazy drug addict would be fun. It’s fun just to do a back-story and figure out who a character is and become them. Playing someone in the political office would be cool. (Laughing) Playing Johnny Depp’s wife!

YRB: Are you working on any other projects? Do you see yourself headed into a music career like some of your other co-stars?

Jessica: We’ll see what happens with other projects when I have a break… To be completely honest, if I tried to do an album or sing I think they would stop music all together. I’m very into music; I’m into the whole indie rock band thing, going to see small shows. But it’s just not for me to try to be a singer by any means.

YRB: Being that this is our “Power” issue, who do you think are some of the most powerful women in the industry?

Jessica: As an actress, I would say Meryl Streep seems pretty powerful. She’s so amazing at what she does; she’s deserved every Oscar nomination that she’s had. I think in the fashion world, Anna Wintour – she runs the fashion world. Singing, I would say Madonna. She’s been in it for so long, she kills it…and brings something new to each album.

YRB: And what do you think it takes to get that powerful status?
